Opera, one of the world’s early browsers continues to align with blockchain technology. In a recent development, Opera is set to work with Solana Labs. This partnership is geared towards the integration of Solana blockchain into its browser.

By integration, it implies that Solana-based decentralized applications (DApps) will be supported on the browser. In turn, this will give Opera’s numerous users direct access to the Solana blockchain. Thereby, removing the hurdles associated with using Web 3.0 and crypto.

However, this will come into play from Q1 of year 2022. Noteworthy is that the integration will be live on Opera for Android first.

If you ask me, I’d say that this is a very big move by the company. Why? Considering the growing interest in Decentralized Finance (DeFi) and web 3.0, Opera might record an increased usage.

Equally, don’t be too surprised by the move because Opera has always been on the forefront when it comes to blockchain adoption.

Opera and Crypto Adoption

Did you know that Opera was the world’s first browser with Web 3.0 and crypto support? And now, it is pushing hard at becoming the first browser to support Solana -based decentralized applications (DApps).

Opera and Crypto

Interestingly, the company’s first step towards crypto was taken back in 2018. In July 2018, Opera became the first browser to develop a built-in cryptocurrency wallet.

Hence, you can make wallet to wallet transfers and interact with decentralized applications on Opera. Also, you can make online payments with crypto where it is accepted. In its initial stage, the wallet only supported the Ethereum blockchain.

Moving forward to September 2021, the Cosmos Internet of blockchains was integrated into Opera’s crypto-enabled browser. In like manner, Opera then added Near protocol to its built-in cryptocurrency wallet.

As we speak, the wallet now supports many other cryptos. All of these developments are aimed at making Opera the interface to the decentralized web.

Why Solana Integration?

As a cryptocurrency trader and/or investor, you will always look out for networks or blockchains that are fast in processing your transactions. Secondly, you watch out for blockchains that charges moderate and low gas fees. Of course, nobody wants to pay $100 for a $10 transfer.

Owing to these reasons, Opera chooses to integrate the Solana blockchain. The processing speed of the network is ultra-fast. Also, transaction fees are minimal.

Precisely, Solana has 400 millisecond block times. Likewise, its scalability ensures transactions remain less than $0.01 for both developers and users. In addition, its average cost per transaction is $0.00025.

Opera's Solana Integration

In explaining their decision, the Crypto Ecosystem Lead at Opera, Susie Batt commented:

Solana has the goal of onboarding one billion people to crypto. That’s a goal we share. No other browser company has been at the forefront of web3 as early on as Opera. We are thrilled to be collaborating moving forward.

In line with the above, Austin Federa added:

The path to 1 billion users can’t be built by just two or three platforms. This integration will give tens of millions of new users even more choices of how to connect to Solana, and work to keep the dream of the open web alive and well. The mobile web3 revolution has barely just begun, and Opera is helping lead the way.

You should note that, Solana is a decentralized blockchain built to enable scalable, user-friendly applications for the world.

About Opera

Opera is a web browser with interesting and appealing features. With it, you can surf the internet freely, safely and free of ads. In addition, the built-in ads blocker ensures your privacy while speeding up your browsing experience.

In furtherance, it is a global web innovator with a large user base. More so, Opera provides AI-driven digital content discovery solutions to hundreds of  millions of people worldwide. The company claims to be one of the most innovative browser creators. It was founded in 1995 in Norway.

On the whole, this mobile Web3 revolution has barely just begun. Opera is excited to be leading the way. Meanwhile, its counterpart Brave browser has recently launched a built-in cryptocurrency wallet. Equally, Brave has intentions of integrating Solana into its browser.
