DC Comics is the latest to join the NFT boom as the comic book publisher announced on September 29th that it would partner with Palm NFT Studio to bring out its first set of NFTs. The NFT will be released on October 5th to thank those who signed up for the DC FanDome 2021.
Fans of DC Comics will get the chance to own free NFTs of their favorite superheroes like Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman.
The NFT series is curated by DC publisher and chief creative officer Jim Lee. They are developed using Palm NFT Studio’s proprietary system which, according to the press release, is an environmentally friendly and energy-saving technology.
These assets will highlight the company’s history, including its various characters. If all registrants participate in this year’s global virtual event, they will all be able to collect NFT for free. Fans can get the second by engaging on social media channels.
The many characters on the DC Legends list include Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and Harley Quinn – not to mention many famous villains and anti-heroes. The NFT drop allows fans to collect three covers with different rarities for each character. These rare items are divided into common, rare, and legendary items. The initiative would also grant the opportunity to collect three covers for each character in three levels of rarity.
As an example, fans of Wonder Woman can collect a Common NFT (1987’s Wonder Woman #1 by George Pérez), Rare NFT (2021’s Nubia and the Amazons #1 by Alitha Martinez), and Legendary NFT (Yara Flor on 2021’s Future State: Wonder Woman #1 by Jenny Frison.)
Among the reasons DC selected Palm NFT Studio, it is said that the studio’s environmental awareness and creativity helped close the deal. Palm co-founder Dan Heyman is equally excited about the development, saying DC fans have new ways to participate in DC storytelling.
Will Dc Comics Be The Next Big Thing In NFTs?
DC Comics releasing its own NFT could come as a smart move. Comic books are inherently collectibles, and growing digital assets is particularly important. The popularity of its characters and plot means that there is an excitement for having access to some of its most memorable moments. Chief Creative Officer Lee spoke about this novel form of interaction, he said;
“We spent a lot of time on how to translate and adapt these classic covers into a 21st-century format such as NFTs. This drop pays homage to our 87-year history while visualizing a future in which NFTs play a foundational role in novel ways of interacting with DC content and unlocking new experiences.”
If the NFT versions released by other popular franchises in the past have any meaning, then these DC comics-based NFTs are likely to be popular in the marketplace. From sports to music to the arts, several celebrities, including the Czech royalty, are talking about NFT.
