Coinbase Wallet, the largest cryptocurrency exchange service in the US, now supports “.crypto” domain names. This is possible through integration with the blockchain domain name provider Unstoppable Domains.

Unstoppable Domains announced that Coinbase users can now send payments to each other. This is done simply by entering the .crypto domain instead of using a long-form of an encrypted address.

Coinbase Joins in Supporting .Crypto Domain-Based Payments

With the introduction of the new integration, Coinbase Wallet joined the major Huobi cryptocurrency exchange, which announced a similar function in late June.

Brad Kam, co-founder of Unstoppable Domains, said Coinbase Wallet is the first platform to offer an “all-in-one solution” for all wallet-provided cryptocurrencies. According to Unstoppable Domains, the Coinbase wallet provides .crypto domains for Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH) and all other currencies that the wallet offers.

In addition to Huobi and Coinbase Wallet, the .crypto domain is also supported by Trust Wallet. Trust Wallet is Binance’s official self-custodial wallet, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange.

Coinbase Will Also Host the .crypto Domain

In addition to the domain name feature with Unstoppable Domain’s name support, Coinbase Wallet also monitors support for .crypto domain names in the “collectibles” section of its app. The Gemini exchange founded by Winklevoss also initiated the custody for .crypto domain on July 23.

Coinbase users can also register and manage domains via the DApp browser (Coinbase Decentralized Application). Coinbase users must add their wallets to the “Unstoppable Domains” in the DApp browser. This is necessary in order to send transactions to a specific domain.

Domain Name Providers Gaining Dominance

Domain name providers are increasingly implementing blockchain technology. Verisign, the main domain name registrar, received a blockchain patent to convert traditional domain names to blockchain user addresses. This integration enables interaction with other participants in the network. After the launch of Ethereum-based .crypto domains at the end of 2019, Unstoppable Domains has registered 200,000 domains so far.
