Chinese companies hint at metaverse FIFA world cup experience
Chinese tech companies are working on technology that will bring a metaverse experience to the FIFA world cup.
This tech will allow soccer fans who love the sport to watch their favorite teams play from the metaverse.
The Chinese government is making efforts to make this a reality by developing a five-year plan that will boost the virtual reality industry.
Migu, which is a video streaming platform is a leading company involved in this world cup plan, the company has secured rights to bring the FIFA world cup to the metaverse
Bytedance, owner of the popular streaming platform TikTok has also gotten licensing rights to air the FIFA competition with the company VR headset pico showing the live broadcast of the world cup. Users can also create mini communities called digital rooms where they can “hang out” and enjoy the process.
The world cup is only the first step in exploring the capabilities of this technology as china’s ministry of industry and information technology created a five-year plan (2022-2026) that intends to boost china’s augmented reality, and virtual reality industry by producing 25 million units of VR headsets every year for a period of 5 years.
In the document previously released, china also gave the go-ahead for research on some sectors that hadn’t gotten much traction like full body motion capture, expressing tracking eye tracking, and gesture traction.
